GLONASS Tracking Issue with GPS1200

Unfortunately, due to an unannounced GLONASS almanac update at midnight on 28.04.10, specific models of GPS1200 combined GPS/GLONASS receivers had a GLONASS tracking problem.

During Thursday 29th April the GLONASS ground control centre corrected an almanac issue on the decommissioned GLONASS satellite SLOT 6. This means that since yesterday afternoon, Thursday 29th April, GLONASS tracking works fine without any problems on Leica rover sensors, GX1220 GG, GX1230 GG, ATX1230 GG and ATX900 GG. Other Leica sensors such as Leica Viva and GPS1200+ were not affected at all.

In order to overcome the tracking issues, the upload of a new free of charge ME firmware (3.019) is strongly recommended. The new ME firmware version can be downloaded from the MyWorld @ Leica Geosystems https://myworld.leica-geosystems.com or the Leica Geosystems download section http://www.leica-geosystems.com/en/page_dynamic.htm?id=13413

It is expected that GLONASS almanac will change again soon, so in order to eliminate this uncertainty the new firmware version should be loaded, as it solves the aforementioned tracking issues.

Limited information on maintenance of the spare M-type satellite Slot 6 is given on the GLONASS website
http://www.glonass-ianc.rsa.ru/pls/htmldb/f?p=202:1:1785743766860469::NO

Please note that the OSNet GNSS reference station receivers did not suffer any issues in GB. However the OSi network in Ireland did require a reset of all almanacs during yesterday morning to restore the network in full and the updated firmware has been addressed.

Leica Geosystems would like to apologise for any inconveniences that this problem may have caused.

Where are your rovers right now?

"Where are your network rovers right now?"
"What activity has been done and when?".

These are just some of the questions Viewserve helps you answer. Viewserve is a web based fleet management solution that helps you save resources and raise the quality of the work performed.

SmartNet subscribers can now track their own usage remotely and in real time 24/7 with this new Viewserve service. Features from Viewserve anywhere include, survey route views in Google Earth, connection times, history and detailed reporting of SmartNet license activity.

This is particularly useful for large projects or customers who have multiple licenses to manage.
New GPS1200 Firmware Version 7.80

We are pleased to inform you about the release of the new Leica SmartWorx Version 7.80 onboard software for System 1200.
To provide full System 1200 functionality, it is strongly recommended to always load the latest SmartWorx firmware and applications to the GPS1200+, TPS1200+, TM30, TS30, RX1250, RX1210, GRX1200+ and ATX1230+ GNSS instruments.

There are also some important updates relating to Network RTK, such as.....

- Re-connection times to SmartNet improved.

- Satellite orbit prediction was improved in 7.80, which results in more favorable position noise characteristics.

- In 7.80 the RTK fixed position integrity has been improved for certain use cases when tracking satellites in difficult environments..

New SmartNet Data Centre - February 2010

We are continually investing in the development of the SmartNet service and as part of these ongoing improvements we are implementing a completely new web farm for SmartNet. This will be controlled by Leica Geosystems from its UK headquarters in Milton Keynes and will ensure a higher level of connectivity, resilience and support for our end users.

The new web farm will include completely new high specification servers, with improved redundancy and monitoring systems, together with a private Leica Geosystems Internet cloud and larger bandwidth. Further details will be available in February.
